When to Apply

Peabody Conservatory is pleased to offer applicants several opportunities to apply for our programs. Please note:

  • In a given cycle (academic year) you may only submit and be reviewed for one application round for the same program.
  • Peabody Conservatory does not allow deferrals. We recommend that you apply and audition for the academic year in which you intend to enroll.

Early Decision

Early Decision is open to undergraduate (BM, BFA) applicants only. For those interested in the Double Degree program, Peabody’s Early Decision lines up with JHU’s Early Decision I. Please note that transfer applicants are not eligible to apply for Early Decision. Here’s what you need to know and what’s due when:

Spring Admission

Spring Admission is open to BFA Dance and graduate instrumental areas (MM, GPD) based on studio availability only. The latter does not include Conducting, Wind Conducting, Computer Music, Guitar, Organ, Music Theory Pedagogy, Music Education, or Musicology. Please contact us at peabodyadmissions@jhu.edu to determine if there is studio availability for your major prior to beginning your application. Here’s what you need to know and what’s due when:

  • Application instructions
  • Rolling admission
    • This means we will review applications as they are submitted until the final submission deadline of December 1st. We recommend submitting your application ASAP so you may audition/interview and receive a decision promptly.
  • Due at the time of submission
    • Application and application fee
      • Your application will be considered incomplete and will not be reviewed if the application fee is not paid. If you feel that you qualify for an application fee waiver, please email peabodyadmissions@jhu.edu with your request.
    • All recorded audition materials (if applicable)
      • There is no pre-screening requirement for Spring Admission.
    • Verified English proficiency exam score
    • Recommendation letters (3)
  • Due by November 1st
  • Audition repertoire requirements
  • Auditions/interviews will be scheduled ad-hoc directly with the faculty. Please email peabodyadmissions@jhu.edu with any questions or to schedule an audition/interview for Spring Admission.
  • Decisions released on a rolling deadline.

Low-Residency MM

The Low-Residency Master of Music is available for Composition only. Here’s what you need to know and what’s due when:

  • Application instructions
  • Due by November 1st
  • Due by December 1st
    • Application and application fee
      • Your application will be considered incomplete and will not be reviewed if the application fee is not paid. If you feel that you qualify for an application fee waiver, please email peabodyadmissions@jhu.edu with your request.
    • Verified English proficiency exam score
      • This requirement is waived if you have completed 2+ years at a school at which English is the primary language.
    • Recommendation letters (3)
    • All recorded audition materials (if applicable)
      • There is no pre-screening requirement for this program.
  • Audition repertoire requirements
  • Auditions/interviews will be scheduled ad-hoc directly with the faculty. Please email peabodyadmissions@jhu.edu with any questions or to schedule an audition/interview for the Low-Residency MM program.
  • Decisions released around December 15th.
  • Enrollment decision deadline is January 15th.

Regular Decision

The Regular Decision round is open to all applicants. Here’s what you need to know and what’s due when:

  • Application instructions
  • Due by December 1st
    • Application and application fee
      • Your application will be considered incomplete and will not be reviewed if the application fee is not paid. If you feel that you qualify for an application fee waiver, please email peabodyadmissions@jhu.edu with your request.
    • Pre-screen materials (if applicable)
      • Pre-screen decisions released in early January.
    • Verified English proficiency exam score (for all international students who have also submitted an assistantship application)
      • This requirement is waived if you have completed 2+ years at a school at which English is the primary language.
    • References (3)
  • Due by February 1st
    • Verified English proficiency exam score (for all international students who have not submitted an assistantship application)
    • This requirement is waived if you have completed 2+ years at a school at which English is the primary language.
    • Recommendation letters (3)
    • Final recorded audition materials
  • Due by February 15th
    • FAFSA/CSS Profile (recommended but not required)
    • Foundations Benchmark exam
      • Required only for BM applicants to Music for New Media and Computer Music.
  • Audition repertoire requirements
  • Graduate academic assessment exams will be available online January 6-20th
    • You will be notified directly if you have required exams. If the exams are not completed within the given timeframe, this may have an effect on your audition/interview.
  • Audition Week will be held February 20-25th. Dance auditions at Peabody will be held January 28-29th.
  • Decisions released around April 1st.
  • Enrollment decision deadline is April 15th for graduate applicants, May 1st for undergraduate applicants. 

Late Admission

Applications will be accepted for all programs other than DMA and the Artist Diploma. Please see the audition schedule here.

  • Due by May 13th
    • Foundations Benchmark exam
      • Required only for BM applicants to Music for New Media and Computer Music.
  • Auditions/interviews will be held mid-May.
  • Decisions released around June 1st.
  • Enrollment decision deadline is June 10th.

Assistantship Application

Graduate Assistantships (GAs) are available to qualified students who have been admitted during the Regular Decision round to graduate programs (MM, GPD, DMA) as full-time degree candidates. This separate application is required to be considered for a GA. Not all assistantships may be available in a given year; available assistantships can be found on the application itself. More information can be found here.

 

      • Due by December 1st
        • Application (there is no fee for the assistantship application)
        • Verified English proficiency exam score
          • This requirement is waived if you have completed 2+ years at a school at which English is the primary language.
      • Graduate academic assessment exams will be available online January 6-20th
        • Exams are required for anyone who wishes to be considered for a Music Theory, Keyboard Studies, and/or Ear Training GA. You will be notified directly if you have required exams.
        • If the exams are not completed within the given timeframe or you do not meet the minimum score requirement to qualify for a GA interview, you may not be scheduled for an interview.
      • GA interviews will take place during Audition Week
