Campus Security Mission Statement

It is the mission of the Peabody Campus Security Department to serve the Peabody community with respect, fairness, and compassion.  We are committed to the protection of life and property; to the preservation of peace, order and safety; and to upholding University policies and procedures.  We are committed to serving the campus community in an effort to enhance the quality of life while providing for a safe environment in which to pursue academic opportunities.  Our officers strive to nurture the community’s trust by holding themselves to the highest standards of performance and ethics.

Who We Are and What We Do

The Peabody Campus Security Department provides a full range of security services to the campus community, 24 hours a day.  We continuously interact with other Peabody offices, the Baltimore Police Department, and many other private security agencies in the area.  As a member of the Downtown Partnership of Baltimore’s Public Safety Coalition, we work to reduce the threat of off-campus crime to faculty, staff, students, and guests of Peabody.

Headed by a Director, the Department consists of full-time, uniformed security officers and supervisors who are commissioned by the State of Maryland with full arrest powers on all Institute property, and casual/part time security officers that supplement this force.  The Department also employs dispatchers and a guest greeter/screener.  The security officers, who are unarmed, are trained professionals, with years of practical law enforcement and public safety experience. All of the officers undergo annual training sessions in areas such as crime reporting responsibilities, cultural diversity, sexual harassment, rape crisis, first aid, CPR, and public relations communication.  The Department also supplements its security staff by employing off-duty, uniformed officers of the Baltimore Police Department to patrol the campus in the evening and early morning hours.

The Campus Security Department utilizes radio dispatch, a computer controlled access control system, and an extensive network of CCTV cameras to help keep our campus safe.
