Undergraduate Audition Repertoire

Marimba

  • Four-mallet solo (approximately 5-12 minutes in length)
  • Two-mallet transcription of any movement of a cello suite or violin partita or sonata by J.S. Bach
  • Two-mallet sight reading will be required

Snare Drum

  • One etude from either Cirone’sĀ Portraits in RhythmĀ or Delecluse’sĀ Douze Etudes

Timpani

  • Etude of candidate’s choice from any of the following: Elliott Carter Eight Pieces for Solo Timpani, Richard HochrainerĀ Etuden Fur Timpani, Jacques DelecluseĀ Vingt Etudes, or Vic FirthĀ The Solo Timapnist
  • Candidate will be expected to recognize and sing intervals played on the piano and demonstrate fluency of tuning

Excerpts from the standard orchestral repertoire for timpani, snare drum, and xylophone suggested, but not required.

Pre-screening

A Pre-Screening VideoĀ is Required.Ā 

Solo SelectionsĀ for Pre-Screening:

  • A major work for either marimba or vibraphone
  • One piece from Elliott Carter’s Eight Pieces for Four Timpani
  • A solo piece for multiple percussion
  • An Ć©tude for snare drum

Glockenspiel

  • Two excerpts from the standard orchestral repertoire

  • A major work for either marimba or vibraphone
  • A movement from a cello suite or violin sonata or partita by J.S. Bach
  • Sight reading will be required

Multiple-percussion

  • A solo piece for multiple percussion (7-15 min duration)

Snare drum

  • Two excerpts from the standard orchestral repertoire
