Baroque Cello
- Two movements from an unaccompanied Bach suite
- Two contrasting movements from an 18th-century sonata
- Applicants for graduate degrees should additionally prepare two movements from a continuo sonata or a concerto by a second composer
Baroque Flute
- One movement from a sonata by Bach
- One fantasia for solo flute of G.P. Telemann
- A prelude from one of the solo suites of J. Hotteterre
- A movement from a late 18th-century sonata (past 1750)
Baroque Oboe
- A sonata by Handel or Telemann
- A work by a French Baroque composer
- A work of the applicant’s choice
Baroque Violin
- One movement from an unaccompanied Bach sonata or partita or a Telemann fantasy
- Any solo work by a 17th-century composer
- Two contrasting movements from an 18th-century sonata
Baroque Viola
- Two movements of unaccompanied Bach, either from the violin sonatas and partitas or from the cello suites
- Two contrasting movements from an 18th-century sonata
Harpsichord
- A work by J.S. Bach
- A work by a French Baroque composer
- A work from the 17th century
- A work of the applicant’s choice
Lute Instruments
Applicants may audition on any one lute-family instrument—Renaissance lute, Baroque lute, archlute or theorbo—even when their intention is to study one or more different instruments in the family. For live auditions, play one instrument. If submitting recorded samples of multiple lutes, include a complete audition for one instrument. If auditioning on classical guitar for a lute degree, play transcriptions of four contrasting renaissance and baroque lute pieces.

Voice
- Pre-screening is required for Regular Decision only. Requirements:
- Undergraduate
- Three classical selections required, at least one should be in English and one in a foreign language.
- Selections must be memorized and should show a variety of styles and tempi.
- Graduate
- Two arias and a song (one in English) is required.
- Audition requirements follow those of the MM in Voice, except:
- 4-5 of the eight required selections must be written before 1800
- A Gregorian chant and at least one selection from the Renaissance should be included
Viola da Gamba
- One ricercar from Diego Ortiz: Tratado de Glosas
- One prolusio or a set of divisions from the “Divisions for the practice of Learners” in Christopher Simpson: The Division Viol (Part III)
- Two contrasting movements by a composer such as Abel, Marais, Schenk, Telemann, or comparable.
- Applicants for graduate degrees should additionally prepare two contrasting movements by a second composer.
Artist Diploma
AD applicants must prepare a program of no less than 70 minutes duration, including at least two large-scale works.
