Violinist Nicolle Avila was born and raised in Bogotá, Colombia, where her primary musical influences were her mother, Janeth Avila, and Amparo Botero. Driven by a lifelong passion for teaching and performing, Avila draws inspiration from her Colombian roots, having grown up deeply involved in her mother’s music academy. Now, she eagerly shares her love for music education with diverse groups at Peabody, including the Tuned-In program, where she strives to create an inclusive environment where all students can thrive.

Avila has performed alongside renowned orchestras such as the Tonhalle Orchestra of Zurich and the Houston Symphony, and she currently serves as a regular substitute with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra.

She has also appeared as a soloist with the Javeriana Symphony Orchestra, participated twice as a fellow in the Cartagena International Music Festival, and been a member of the Youth Philharmonic of Colombia for the 2015 and 2019 seasons, touring the USA and Europe. Additionally, she has been a member of Cuarteto Botero.

In the United States, Avila received guidance from mentors such as Richard Young (Vermeer Quartet) and Herbert Greenberg. She furthered her education at the Peabody Conservatory on a Full-Tuition scholarship, earning both her undergraduate and master’s degrees under Greenberg’s tutelage. She graduated with honors and was recognized as a member of Pi Kappa Lambda.

In 2023, Nicolle Avila was selected as a Firebird Fellow for AIM (Academy for Impact through Music), an innovative program inspired by El Sistema. As a Fellow, she participated in an enriching in-person residency in Portugal, collaborating with educators from around the globe dedicated to music’s transformative power.

Currently, Avila is a full-time teacher at the Peabody Preparatory. In addition to her dedication to teaching, she is committed to fostering inclusivity and diversity within the classical music community and is particularly passionate about promoting Colombian and Latin American music alongside the standard classical repertoire.
