Mikel Combs is a versatile acoustic and electric bassist living and working in the Maryland/DC area. He has performed and lived in New York, Los Angeles, throughout the Midwest and the Mid-Atlantic region. Mikel has performed, recorded, and appeared with many local, national and international artists and continues to do so.

He has studied considerably with Lynn Seaton, Larry Gray, and Jeff Bradetich. His strengths as a musician draw from his 30 year experience as a bassist, pedagogue, and academic.

Academically, Mikel holds Bachelor and Master’s degrees in jazz studies from the University of North Texas and a Doctorate in Music from the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign. His thesis is the first to introduce bassist Jimmy Garrison into academic discussion.

Mikel also composes and actively contributes bass tracks to artists’ projects and to corporate demos.
