Mikel Combs is an acoustic and electric bassist. He has performed and lived in New York, Los Angeles, throughout the Midwest and the Mid-Atlantic region, where he currently resides. Mikel regularly records and appears with local, national, and international artists.

He has studied considerably with Lynn Seaton, Larry Gray, and Jeff Bradetich. His strengths as a musician draw from his 35 year experience as a performing bassist, pedagogue, and academic.

Academically Mikel holds Bachelor and Master’s degrees in jazz studies from the University of North Texas and a Doctorate in Music from the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign. His thesis is the first to introduce bassist Jimmy Garrison into academic discussion.
