James Keretses holds a bachelor’s degree in guitar performance from the University of South Carolina where he studied with Christopher Berg, and a master’s degree in guitar performance from the Peabody Institute where he studied with Julian Gray. Keretses is currently continuing his studies with Julian Gray in pursuit of his doctoral degree in guitar performance. During his time at Peabody, Keretses has held both the library-bibliography assistantship as well as the guitar assistantship.
Keretses regularly performs throughout the east coast as both a soloist and as a member of the Baltimore Guitar Duo, a Peabody Honors Ensemble for the 2016-17 academic year. Recent engagements include the University of South Carolina School of Music, The War Memorial Chapel at Bob Jones University, the First Unitarian Church of Baltimore, the Peabody Thursday Noon Chamber Music series, Brightwood Senior Center, and the DiMenna Center in New York City for the Guitar Foundation of America Regional Symposium. He has also performed in master classes for world renowned guitarists such as Johannes Moller, Łukasz Kuropaczewski, Benjamin Verdery, Lorenzo Micheli, and Matteo Mela.
In addition to his work with the Peabody Preparatory, Keretses maintains an active teaching schedule for ARTI-ST Music in Whitemarsh, Lutherville, and Reisterstown, as well as privately for adult students.
