Baltimore native, Asya Melan Shaw, M.S, R-DMT (she/her), is a modern dancer, somatic practitioner, and movement-based teaching artist. She received her Master of Science degree in Dance/Movement Therapy from Sarah Lawrence College and her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Dance Performance from Towson University. She is also an alumna of the Baltimore School For the Arts and the current resident dance/movement therapist for community-based wellness program, Ballet After Dark LLC . Shaw has had the pleasure of teaching both children and adults locally under the direction of Ailey Camp Baltimore, The Baltimore School for the Arts, Towson University, Hope Health Systems Incorporated, Morton Street Dance Center, Hazelwood Elementary/Middle School, and Peabody Preparatory Dance program. Her clinical practice and teaching philosophy is committed to advocating for equitable arts access and the holistic benefits of dance education for all children. She is excited to continue her journey and practice with Peabody Preparatory Dance as the new Early Childhood Coordinator.
