Abundant Silence invites compositions for solo piano, collaborative piano, educational piano, and art song. All winning compositions will be published through Abundant Silence as well as performed, recorded, and live streamed by professional ensembles. Winning prizes offer up to $2,000.

The American Prize National Nonprofit Competitions in the Performing Arts is the nation's most comprehensive series of online contests in the musical and theater arts. The American Prize has attracted thousands of qualified contestants from all fifty states since its founding, has awarded nearly $100,000 in prizes in all categories since 2010, and is presented annually in many areas of the performing arts, including but not limited to conductors, composers, chamber ensembles, choruses, pianists, and vocalists.

Annapolis Opera welcomes singers between the ages of 20 and 35, who are residents (students or working) of Maryland, Delaware, the District of Columbia, Pennsylvania, Virginia or West Virginia or students attending Westminster Choir College or Rutgers at New Brunswick.

Appassionata welcomes all classical musicians who are or aspire to become professional. Participants can apply as soloists or in groups, as long as they are born after July 11, 1996 or their average age is 30 years maximum within groups. Prizes include cash and opportunities to perform professionally on stage or in studio.

Aural Compass Projects is a musical arts organization dedicated to performing new and less-performed works. The organization's annual competition is open to composition students of all ages, provided they are residents of the US or currently studying in the US. Winners receive an award of $250, a premiere of their song, and a digital recording of the premiere.

Astral develops talented, rising-star classical musicians with the potential for major solo or chamber music careers. Through Astral, artists hone their skills through performances, mentorship, and community involvement, to achieve sustainable and impactful careers in classical music.
Winners of Astral Artists Auditions do not receive prizes, but an invitation to join Astral's artist roster. Auditions take place annually in a virtual format or live in Philadelphia.

The BMI Student Composer Awards is open to young composers engaged in the study of classical music. Awards totaling $20,000 are determined annually for vocal, instrumental, and/or electronic compositions. Winners are honored at an award ceremony in New York City each spring.

The Camille Coloratura Awards strive to highlight the art of coloratura singing and repertoire. All singers over the age of 16 are encouraged to apply, with first place prizes for each division being $1,500.

Vocalis Consort and the Fundación Cultural Armonía, with the support of the Casa de la Música, presents Canto Latino, which invites singers to showcase art songs by Latin-American composers. Applicants of all ages and nationalities compete for $500 grand prizes in the following categories: Best Singer, Best Performance, Best Performance of an Ecuadorian Song, Best Performance of an Art Song by a Latin-American Composer, Best Performance of a Latin-American Folk Song Arranged for Voice and Piano, Best Video Presentation, Best Pianist, and Audience Favorite. Judges seek singers appear successful in using the video platform as a medium to showcase their artistic vision, their resourcefulness, their ingenuity, and above all, their artistry.

Hosted by the National Opera Association, the Carolyn Bailey and Dominick Argento Vocal Competition is conducted annually in two divisions: The Artist Division and the Scholarship Division. The Scholarship Division is open to singers ages 18 to 24 who are currently enrolled in or have completed undergraduate or graduate programs; the Artist Division is open to singers ages 25 to 40. There are no residency or citizenship requirements. Prizes range from $500 to $2,500, plus $400 travel stipends for finalists. In addition, one singer will receive a full-tuition graduate fellowship of up to $50,000 per year.

Based in Charleston, South Carolina, the Charleston International Music offers numerous competitions to discover talented musicians of all ages and nationalities. Competitions typically award small cash prizes as well as publication on the Charleston International Music Competition website and YouTube page.

The Chesapeake Chamber Music Competition (CCMC) is a competition for acoustic instrumental ensembles. Each ensemble must consist of 3 to 5 members, all of whom must be engaged in study of music and/or music performance careers. The first round commences virtually, while the second round takes place in Easton, Maryland, where housing is provided.
The winning Gold Prize ensemble will be awarded $10,000 and receive a concert appearance at the Chesapeake Chamber Music Festival. The winning Silver Prize ensemble will receive $5,000, and the winning Audience Choice Award ensemble will receive $500.

The Classical Singer magazine invites singers ages 14+ in both opera and musical theater categories. Winners receive cash prizes, university and summer program scholarships, written feedback from industry professionals, and free participation in convention masterclasses.

Established in 2007, the ClefWorks Composition Competition invites composers ages 18 to 35 to write a six-minute piece for string quartet or solo guitar. The winner will have their piece premiered and professionally recorded by the Samford Quartet.

Concert Artists Guild (CAG) provides an annual competition open to emerging professionals in solo instrumental, solo singing (opera not included), and ensemble categories. Winning prizes may include management from CAG, New York recital performances, professional video or EP recordings, and more.

The Cooper-Bing Vocal Competition welcomes professional and pre-professional opera singers ages 22 to 35. Video recordings must be submitted to be eligible for the live competition and a grand prize of $10,000.

The Cortona Sessions for New Music and the International Foundation for Contemporary Music invite composers, ages 18 and up, to submit scores for performance at the Cortona Sessions for New Music. Works may be up to 15 minutes in length, and may be composed for any instrument or combination of instruments represented by the Cortona Sessions faculty.
The Cortona Prize winner(s) will be offered a tuition-waiver to attend the Cortona Sessions. If they accept the invitation, their submitted work will be performed during the Sessions, and they will have all opportunities afforded to composition participants.

The National Society of Arts and Letters welcomes classical vocalists, ages 23 to 31, to compete for a maximum prize of $5,000. Applicants may compete in video or in-person formats.

The Eleanor McCollum competition is the primary recruiting tool for the Houston Grand Opera (HGO) Studio, one of the most respected young artist programs in the world. Singers and pianists are offered training in all areas as well as main stage performance opportunities with HGO, role studies and additional concert and/or opera scenes performances. Most Studio artists remain at HGO for two seasons, though a third year is not uncommon.
Auditions for the competition are accepted in both live and video formats. While it is not possible to be considered for the cash prizes of the Eleanor McCollum Competition without participating in the finals, it is still possible to be considered for the Studio. Winning the competition does not guarantee a place in the Studio, and artists who did not sing in the final Concert of Arias can be invited to the Studio.

The Elizabeth Loker Concerto Competition is open to applicants, ages 12 to 25, that play orchestral instruments. Second place is awarded $500 and a performance with the Cheasapeake Youth Symphony Orchestra; first place is awarded $2,000 and a performance with the Mid-Atlantic Symphony Orchestra, as well as hotel accommodation during the performance.

Ensemble Connect is a program of Carnegie Hall, The Juilliard School, and the Weill Music Institute in partnership with the New York City Department of Education. This two-year fellowship program prepares extraordinary young professional classical musicians for careers that combine musical excellence with teaching, community engagement, advocacy, entrepreneurship, and leadership.
Ensemble Connect offers top-quality performance opportunities, intensive professional development, and the opportunity to partner with a New York City public school throughout the fellowship.

First Music, the New York Youth Symphony’s young composer competition, commissions America’s best emerging orchestra, chamber music, and jazz composers under the age of 30. Seven awards are given each season for orchestral, jazz, and chamber music compositions.

The Flute Society of Greater Philadelphia (FSGP) welcomes flutists ages 18 to 30 in a virtual competition. First place receives $1,000, second place receives $500, and third place receives $250.

Established in 1971, the George London Foundation Competition welcomes rising professional opera singers. Fifteen finalists are selected from a preliminary round to perform in the live competition. All finalists receive $1,000 each, while the five winners receive George London Awards of $10,000 each.

The George Shirley Vocal and Composer Competition focuses entirely on African American vocal repertoire and is open to singers of all ethnicities. Singers are separated into High School, Collegiate, and Pre-Professional divisions, with monetary prizes of up to $5,000.
The competition is also open to African American composers, ages 18 to 35, who may submit works for prizes of up to $1,000.

The Gerda Lissner Foundation invites singers, ages 21 to 30, to perform four Lieder or songs for voice and piano. Accompanists are provided at the live rounds, though singers may bring their own accompanists instead. Awards range from $500 to $7,000.

Getting to Carnegie, "The Hunger Games of Classical Music," welcomes musicians of all nationalities between the ages of 18 and 29 to compete for an opportunity to share the stage with Steinway Artist Julian Gargiulo. In addition to performance opportunities, the winner receives a $2,500 cash prize. The competition theme rotates annually between cello, violin, and voice.

The Giulio Gari Foundation offers young singers from around the world cash prizes and Gala invitations, which introduce singers to both the public and the industry. In addition, the Foundation hosts masterclasses and salon style recitals to further showcase their artists.

The Hal Leonard Vocal Competition invites young singers, ages 23 and under, residing in North America and US territories to participate in an entirely virtual contest. Cash prizes are awarded to first place winners in each category, and valuable gift certificates are awarded to those singers placing second and third.

The Rising Star Award Competition is open to individual performing artists and members of small ensembles, ages 18 to 35, who live, train, work, or perform regularly in Howard County (MD) or have done so in the past. Up to ten individuals and/or group finalists are selected to perform at the annual Arts Council's annual benefit gala, Celebration of the Arts in Howard County. The event audience of over 500 artists, arts patrons, business and political representatives, and other community members then vote for its favorite performer, who receives a $5,000 award.

The JTVA Vocal Competition offers prizes to two groups of singers. Rather than specific age or educational requirements, these groups are distinguished primarily by level of ability, vocal experience, and readiness to begin a professional career.
This competition is open to anyone irrespective of residency or educational background; however, all applicants are expected to sing at the college level at least. All finalists receive cash awards, with the grand prize being $10,000.

The Jensen Foundation invites rising opera singers, ages 25 to 35, who are permanent legal residents of the US. All finalists receive cash prizes, with the grand prize being $15,000.

The Kentucky Bach Choir encourages singers to study the music of JS Bach through this competition. Singers born after 1991 who are not under professional management are encouraged to apply. The grand prize is $2,000, plus an opportunity to perform as a paid soloist in a subsequent Kentucky Bach Choir season.

This competition is open to string players, ages 16 to 30. The grand prize winner receives $5,000 and a featured guest performance at the Island Symphony Bach Festival. Competition repertoire focuses on music for unaccompanied strings, composed by JS Bach.

The Livingston Symphony Orchestra of New Jersey welcomes tri-state based musicians, ages 14 to 21, to compete for a $1,000 prize and solo performance with the orchestra. All orchestral instrumentalists excluding piano are encouraged to audition.

The loadbang International Commission Competition is open to composers of all ages and nationalities. The winning composer will receive $1,000 as a commission to write a new piece for loadbang ensemble which will be premiered in New York City. The winning composer also has the option to attend the Longy School of Music's Divergent Studio tuition free.

The Lotte Lenya Competition recognizes talented singer/actors of all nationalities, ages 19 to 32, who are dramatically and musically convincing in repertoire ranging from opera/operetta to contemporary Broadway scores, including the works of Kurt Weill. All finalists receive cash prizes, with the grand prize being $20,000.

Hosted by the Oratorio Society of New York, the Lyndon Woodside Oratorio-Solo Competition welcomes singers of all nationalities, ages 40 and under, who are early in their oratorio career. Finalists compete in a live concert for a grand prize of $7,000.

In 2019 the Philharmonie de Paris and the Paris Mozart Orchestra joined forces to create La Maestra International Competition for Women Conductors. The Competition is uniquely complemented by an Academy, which provides selected candidates with professional support for a period of 2 years. After two emblematic editions in September 2020 and March 2022, La Maestra has become one of the world’s not-to-be-missed classical musical events.

The Manhattan International Music Competition is open to musicians of all ages in the following categories: piano, strings, voice, winds, and chamber music. Participants may compete for a recital in Carnegie Hall, a CD recording through the Orpheus Classical label (all costs covered), or both. Winners may also receive cash prizes and/or international management services.

The Marvin Hamlisch International Music Awards welcome composers of all nationalities, ages 18 and over, in the following categories: Classical, Film/Media Scoring, Musical Theater, Jazz, and Songwriting. Interested composers must create pieces inspired by a short film provided by the competition staff. Prize packages vary according to the competition category.

This bi-annual competition welcomes singers ages 18 and up to perform art songs in honor of Mary Trueman, a renowned teacher of French and German Vocal Literature and Diction at Rice University and of Voice at Texas Southern University. The competition's winner receives a grand prize of $1,000, insightful coachings and rehearsals with members of the Art Song Preservation Society’s Advisory Board, career advisement, and a solo song recital in New York City sponsored by the Art Song Preservation Society. Additional prizes vary each time the competition is held.

This international, virtual competition features two divisions: University (open to undergraduate and graduate students) and Emerging Professional. Judges give feedback to all submitted applications, and prizes range from $125 to $1,000. Other awards include free tuition (valued at $899.00) to MIOpera’s Emerging Artist Program as a lead role in a production, and a debut recital at the Voices of MIOpera Recital Series.

The ASCAP Foundation Morton Gould Young Composer Awards accept original, classical concert submissions from composers ages 13 to 30. Eligible applicants are US citizens, permanent residents, or enrolled students with valid and current US student visas. Winners will receive a monetary prize at the discretion of the judges.

The National Association of Negro Musicians, Inc. invites pianists and organists, ages 18 to 30, to compete at local, regional, and national levels. Winning prizes range from $500 to $5,000. Required repertoire embraces the works of European and American composers while highlighting the contributions of Black composers.

This competition, offered only on odd-numbered years, features divisions for Piano, Strings, and Voice. Eligible instrumentalists must be between the ages of 18 and 29; eligible singers must be between the ages of 25 and 36. Entrants should be completely ready for a professional concert career, but must not be (and must not ever have been) under professional management. The grand prize is $20,000, and the runner-up prize is $5,000.

TThe Carolyn Bailey Argento Vocal Competition is conducted annually in two divisions: The Artist Division and the Scholarship Division. Preliminary screening and semi-final rounds are heard by audio recording. A maximum of ten finalists are selected in each division to compete in a live, final audition.

The National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) welcomes composers of all ages to submit a song cycle, group of songs, or extended single song to this competition. The winning composer will receive $2,000, plus $500 in travel reimbursement to the NATS National Conference, where the winning composition will be premiered. In addition, a second-place award of $1,000 is offered.

New York Concert Artists & Associates (NYCA) hosts the Worldwide Debut Audition every year. The competition is open to talented pianists and violinists, ages 35 and under, of all nationalities. The grand prizes involves a Berlin Philharmonie Hall debut recital and two years of worldwide management services by ICM Management.<.p>

The Opera Foundation provides the opportunity for young artists to participate in programs provided by one of four opera houses in Berlin, Turin, Munich, and Amsterdam. Successful applicants receive a stipend of US $16,000 and travel expenses of $4,000 to cover transportation, plus a contract from their respective opera house with additional benefits. The scholarship competition is currently only open to US citizens or permanent resident card holders, between the ages of 18 and 30 who are beginning their professional singing careers.

Sponsored by the Middle Tennessee Choral Society, the Orpheus Vocal Competition exists to provide financial support and encouragement to singers up to age 30 from around the United States who are pursuing careers as vocal artists. It is divided into two divisions: Student (ages 19 to 24) and Young Artist (ages 25 to 30). The Society awards grand prizes of $3,000 for the Student Division and $5,000 for the Young Artist Division, with additional prizes awarded by individuals and corporations.

PARTNERS for the Arts holds this competition annually in search of opera’s rising stars. It is open to singers, ages 25 to 35, who are also US citizens, US legal residents, or full-time students at US institutions. Prizes range from $600 to $8,000.

The Percussive Arts Society (PAS) encourages composers of all ages to submit new, original works for solo vibraphone. The winning composer will receive $3,000, and two more composers will receive honorable mention awards at $250 each. All three compositions will be featured on the PAS website, as well as the PAS official journal, Percussive Notes .

The Percussive Arts Society (PAS) occurs annually, its theme alternating between Drum Set and Solo Percussion. Entrants between ages 18 and 30 compete for a grand prize of $5,000, a second place prize of $2,500, and a third place prize of $1,000, as well as performance opportunities and introductions to leading industry and education professionals.

The Perfect Day Music Foundation celebrates the art of singing and diversity in classical music through a virtual voice competition designed to showcase underrepresented composers and poets. Participants are separated into two divisions: Collegiate (ages 20 to 24) and Emerging (ages 25 to 30), with the winner of each division receiving $1,000. Entrants must record a video of themselves singing an art song or operatic aria by a composer, poet, or librettist of the classical genre within the chosen theme, and post to their personal Instagram (IGTV) or Facebook account, including the hashtags #perfectdayvoicecompetition #shallwegather and tagging @perfectdaymusicfoundation for eligibility.

The Sarah Vaughan International Jazz Vocal Competition is open to solo vocalists of all nationalities who are not signed to a major record label. Finalists will receive limited travel stipends so they may present in the Live Competition, commencing in Newark, NJ. First place receives $5,000, second place receives $1,500, and third place receives $500. Singers are judged on vocal quality, musicality, technique, performance, individuality, artistic interpretation and ability to swing.

The Sinta Quartet National Composition Competition is a call for SATB saxophone quartet scores. The competition is open to all currently registered students of any degree level from Bachelor's to Doctorate in the United States. Two first place winners will receive $500 and a performance of their pieces and up to three runners-up will have their pieces performed.

The William Matheus Sullivan Musical Foundation was established through the estate of a New York lawyer and music patron, with the first grants awarded in 1957. The Foundation identifies talented young opera singers and helps them develop professional careers through a unique program combining audition awards with continuing support for learning new roles. Its first director was Edward Johnson, general manager of the Metropolitan Opera, and the board has always been made up of distinguished professionals in the field.
The Foundation holds annual auditions in New York, and gives generous cash awards to gifted young opera singers in the early stages of professional careers. In 2022 seven winners received $10,000 Sullivan Awards, and six singers received $2,500 Career Development Grants. When the 2020 auditions were cancelled due to the pandemic, the Foundation gave $170,000 in special grants to recent Sullivan winners.

Hosted by the Chamber Orchestra of New York, the Respighi Prize competition is open to young composers and soloists (instrumental and vocal) under 40 years of age, of all nationalities, who are currently enrolled in (or recent graduates of) music conservatory or college. Composers must submit one original work for string orchestra or small orchestra (up to seven players); soloists must submit a recording from a recent performance. Preference is given to applicants who have limited experience with professional orchestras.

Established in 1990 through a bequest of the late Russell C. Wonderlic, this competition alternates annually between voice and piano and has helped many young artists launch international music careers. The competition is open to musicians ages 17 to 29, who are residents or students in Maryland and the District of Columbia. Finalists compete in-person for cash awards of $1,500, $1,000, and $500.

The annual Sue Goetz Ross Memorial Competition, for voice students ages 17 to 22, is open to those who live or study within a 50-mile radius of the DC metropolitan area. First place receives $1,500, second place receives $1,000, and third place receives $700.

The Philharmonic Society of Arlington proudly sponsors the Tannenwald Young Artist Competition for musicians ages 19 to 30. Contestants must submit one video of a solo work meant to be performed with full orchestra or chorus. First prize receives $1,000, second prize receives $650, and third prize receives $350.

Ulysses S. James, director of the Washington Metropolitan Philharmonic (WMP), holds this competition annually to search for pieces to be premiered by the WMP. Composers must be permanent residents of East Coast states, but all other eligibility requirements depend upon the themes of the WPM's performance season. In additional to a world premiere performance, the winner also receives $1,000.

The National Collegiate Solo Competition is open to woodwind, brass, and percussion instrumentalists currently enrolled in a college, university, or conservatory within the United States. The winner receives the opportunity to perform as the featured soloist with the US Army Band.

Hosted by Young Musicians Inspiring Change (YMIC), this virtual competition strives to create a platform for musicians of all ages, backgrounds, and nationalities to come together and reach their highest potential. Grand prize winners are given a cash prize and invited to perform at Carnegie Hall; 1st, prize winners will have the opportunity to perform at Strathmore in Maryland.
Application Fee : $70 for soloists; $55 per applicant for ensembles. Ensembles must submit their total application fee under one payment.
The VSA International Young Soloists Competition seeks musicians with disabilities, ages 14 to 25, of all nationalities. The winner receives a $2,500 prize, professional development experiences, and the opportunity to perform at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C. All genres of music are accepted, including but not limited to Classical, Jazz, Hip-Hop, Rap, Rock/Alt Rock, Pop, Indie, Bluegrass, Folk, Country, R&B/Blues, Latin, and World.

The Boulder Bach Festival sponsors the World Bach Competition (WBC), open to musicians in high school and older. All instruments and voice types are invited to apply, performing solo Bach repertoire. Within the twelve musician categories, first prize winners will receive between $300 and $500.

The World Music Competition welcomes musicians, ages 17 to 36, of all nationalities and disciplines, including but not limited to piano, strings, woodwinds, brass, voice, composition, and conducting. Prizes include cash, CD/DVD publishing, international promotion concerts, and music management. All competition rounds occur online through video recordings.

The Young Concert Artists (YCA) Composer Program was founded 24 years ago by YCA’s Alumni Association to discover and support exciting young composers and to provide opportunities for collaboration with excellent performers. The selected composer-in-residence receives three commissions from YCA (valued at $18,000), and is provided with a three-year comprehensive management contract. YCA’s managers promote each composer’s career and develop opportunities for performances of existing works, new commissions, as well as residency programs with orchestras and new music institutions nationwide.

Winners join the YCA roster with a three-year comprehensive management contract; are presented in debut recitals in New York City and Washington, DC; and are booked in concert engagements around the United States and abroad. Instrumentalists must be 16 to 28 years old, and singers must be 20 to 30 years old.
Application Fee : $55 for early applicants; $85 for regular applicants.
