Pre-Screening

Pre-screening videos must be submitted with your application by the following deadlines:

  • Early Decision (Undergraduate only): November 1st
  • Spring Admission (MM, GPD only): with your application
  • Regular Decision: December 1st
  • Late Admission: May 1st

Current Peabody students applying for a new degree do not need to submit pre-screening recordings; please upload a document or video explaining that you are a current student in lieu of the pre-screening recordings on your application.

Undergraduate

  • A pre-screening video with three selections must be uploaded to the Peabody application.
  • Of the three classical selections required, at least one should be in English and one in a language other than English.
  • Selections must be memorized, and should show a variety of styles and tempi.

Graduate

  • A short video of two arias and one song (one selection must be in English) is required to be uploaded to the Peabody application for pre-screening.

Auditions

Undergraduate (BM)

Three pieces are required.

  • Please include one piece in English and one in a language other than English.
  • Selections should display a variety of styles and tempi.
  • Pieces must be memorized.
  • Sheet music of pieces must be presented to the provided pianist at your live audition.

A supplemental sight-singing diagnostic will be given directly after all undergraduate auditions.

Graduate (MM, GPD)

Eight pieces are required.

  • Please include at least one English selection and at least three languages other than English.
  • Please show a variety of styles and include a mix of songs, operatic and/or oratorio arias, and at least one recitative.
  • Pieces must be memorized (except oratorio and/or complicated repertoire of the 20th/21st century).
  • For the MM in Historical Performance, requirements follow those of the MM in Voice, except that four or five of the six selections ​must be written before 1800. A Gregorian chant and at least one selection from the Renaissance should ​be included.

Doctor of Musical Arts

Ten pieces are required.

  • Please include selections in German, French, Italian, and English
  • Please show a broad variety of styles which demonstrate interest in sophisticated programming, including:
    • at least one operatic aria
    • one oratorio aria
    • one recitative which connects to one of the above arias or that is freestanding
    • other non-operatic pieces
  • Must be memorized (except oratorio and/or complicated repertoire of the 21st century)
  • Please include one selection composed since 1990
  • Please submit a hypothetical (or actual) well-conceived recital program
  • Additional selections may be added to demonstrate repertoire and/or additional language passions

Artist Diploma

AD applicants in voice must prepare a program of no less than 70 minutes duration, representing at least three style periods. To meet these requirements, please use the following guidelines:

  • Please include selections in German, French, Italian, and English
  • Please show a broad variety of styles which demonstrate interest in sophisticated programming, including:
    • at least one operatic aria
    • one oratorio aria
    • one recitative which connects to one of the above arias or that is freestanding
    • other non-operatic pieces
  • Must be memorized (except oratorio and/or complicated repertoire of the 21st century)
  • Please include one selection composed since 1990
  • Please submit a hypothetical (or actual) well-conceived recital program
  • Additional selections may be added to demonstrate repertoire and/or additional language passions
