Career Development Grants
(for students and alumni)

Grant Recipients | Grant Panelists

Designed to support diverse career-enhancing projects and logistical needs for students and recent alumni, Peabody’s Career Development Grants are administered by the Office of the Dean of the Peabody Institute and managed by Peabody LAUNCHPad. See below to learn about each type of Career Development Grant.

We encourage applicants to receive feedback on their applications before submitting. Contact [email protected] or book an appointment to meet with us.

Peabody’s Career Development Fund was established in 1986, and these awards are made possible through the generosity of the following donors: Hilda & the late Douglas Goodwin, the Caswell J. & Constance Caplan Charitable Trust, the Eyer Educational Foundation, Malcolm & Loraine Bernstein, Lynne Church, and Peggy & Yale Gordon.

Peabody faculty members are not eligible for student/alumni Career Development Grants. For current Peabody faculty, information about the application process for Faculty Career Development Grants can be found on this page.

Examples of Qualified Funding

Is your application for... Is your application for...
... a collaborative project or performance? ... professional travel expenses?
... a commission? ... festival, workshop, or competition expenses?
... a recording or video project?  ... instrument purchase or repair?
... research in your field?  ... materials or equipment?
... another new creative idea you'd like to pursue? ... other urgent logistical needs for your career?
Choose Project Grant!  Choose Logistical Grant!

Examples of Ineligible Funding

Funding is not available for:

  • Routine rent or overhead expenses
  • Support for regular college or university tuition
  • Graduate school auditions
  • Personal debt repayment
  • Equipment not specifically required for a career-related pursuit

Eligibility Requirements

  • All Peabody Conservatory students in good standing and alumni within two years of the date of graduation are eligible to apply.
  • Project Grant recipients must complete their projects and submit a report before applying for additional Project Grants.
  • Logistical Grant recipients must complete their projects and submit a report before applying for additional Logistical Grants.
  • If a grant is not awarded and the applicant would like to reapply for funding for the same project, they must receive feedback from a LAUNCHPad team member before submitting another application.
  • If partial funding is awarded, applicants may not appeal for more funding.

Priority Considerations

  • For Project Grants, priority is given to third- and fourth-year undergraduates, graduate students, and alumni within two years of graduation.
  • For Logistical Grants, priority will be given to those with demonstrated financial need.
  • While there is no limit on the number of grants an individual can receive, priority is given to applicants who have not previously received funding.

The following application materials are required:

  • Detailed proposal, including the applicant’s name and contact information, project description, and project budget (2 pages maximum)
  • Resume or CV
  • Recommendation from a faculty member. Please consider:
  • In most cases, this will be your primary teacher, but it could also be another faculty member who is familiar with your work.
    • Recommenders should not benefit financially from the funding being requested.
    • Please request recommendations in advance of your application submission.
      • Contact information for your recommender should be entered in the application form. Once you enter contact info, recommenders will receive a private link to submit the letter.
      • In the “Personal message to recommender” field- include the application deadline and a brief description of your application.

Upon completion of the project, award recipients will be asked to submit a report form, which will be available in the application portal.

I’ve graduated. Can I still apply?

Yes. Career Development Grants are available to alumni up to two years after graduation.

I received a Career Development Grant in the past. Am I eligible to apply again?

Yes, but only after you have submitted final report for your previous award of the same type. For instance, if you have received a Logistical Grant, you may only apply for another Logistical Grant after completing your previous report. However, you are eligible to apply for a Project Grant, since it is a different grant type.

Are Career Development Grants taxable income?

Yes. All Career Development Grants are taxable income. If you are on payroll at Peabody, taxes will be withheld from your award. If you are not on payroll, you will receive a 1099 at tax time and must report the award on your tax return.

How do I submit my report for a past grant?

If you received a grant prior to October 2024, submit your report at this link. If you received a grant in or after October 2024, your report form is accessible in your original application through the application portal
