Description: Join the Learning Innovation team as we provide more details of Hopkins’ and Peabody’s transition to Canvas, and get you acquainted with Canvas, understand the similarities and differences between Canvas and our current LMS, and prepare to teach in Canvas.


Connecting Leading Voices in Jazz and Classical Music Theory

Date: Upcoming, Date TBD
Description: Join us as we bridge the divide between music theory from the perspective of jazz and classical music. In this interactive session, you will explore how chromaticism, voice-leading, a universal harmonic nomenclature, modes, and terminology to express analogues within Classical and Jazz theory usage, are quintessential elements to bridging the conceptual and pedagogical differences between the two equal disciplines. Learn about the musical and compositional vehicles identified as excellent teaching material to address these issues. Additionally, classical or Western European Art Music theory specialists would benefit from attending some of the jazz theory class sessions.

Blended Learning and Universal Design for Learning

Date: Thursday, September 15, 11am-12pm
Description:In this workshop we explore the blend of online and traditional instructional strategies. We also explore why and how to incorporate universal design for learning in your courses to improve student satisfaction, persistence, and retention. The UDL framework emphasizes the importance of building expert learners in any context. By leveraging instructional technology in your teaching practices, we can support students’ ability to develop expert learning skills.

Faculty Learning Communities Information Session

Description:Interested in learning more about faculty learning communities at Peabody? Join us as we share the frameworks and financial and structural supports for you to initiate, participate in, and report out on a faculty learning communities. Creating Accessible Materials

Description: This workshop provides an overview of the top ways to making your course content more accessible. We’ll cover simple things you can do to make your online content more accessible, including Canvas courses, emails, presentations, and handbooks. Participants will leave the workshop with new skills for increased accessibility as well as familiarity with Hopkins resources for creating digital course materials.

Digital Teaching Collective

Date: Monday, July 11 – Wednesday, July 13, 9am-3pm each day
Stipend: $250
for full participation all 3 days
Description: The Collective provides Peabody faculty with the knowledge, tools, and practical experience to evolve their pedagogical practices within the context of existing and emerging educational technologies and theories. Of particular focus this year, the Collective will feature deep dives into the Canvas Learning Management System, providing participants with a deeper knowledge of the system as we fully launch Canvas in Summer and Fall 2022.
