The Peabody Institute is thrilled to offer a variety of lessons, classes, and special opportunities for adult learners of all ages and experience levels. Whether you are just starting out, returning to your instrument after a break, or just looking to learn something new, our newly established Peabody Plus music and dance classes for adults have something for you!

All fall 2020 Peabody Plus classes, listed below, will be delivered online via Zoom.

Intro to Music Production and Beatmaking I

Instructor: Wendel Patrick
Dates: September 16, 2020- October 14, 2020, Wednesdays, 6:45-7:45 pm
Fees: $155.00

A five-week introductory course designed as an entryway for students interested in beatmaking and the exciting world of electronic music production. Upon completion of this course students will be able to quantize, beat match, apply basic effects, use virtual software instruments, record and edit MIDI, and create beats of their own using Ableton Live software.

Intro to Music Production and Beatmaking II

Dates: October 21, 2020 - November 18, 2020, Wednesdays, 6:45-7:45 pm
Fee: $155.00

A five-week follow-up course to Intro to Music Production and Beatmaking I, for students interested in beatmaking and the exciting world of electronic music production. Students will build on the skills learned in the initial session to create more advanced beats and tracks. Students will enter the world of sampling and remixing, and explore more advanced effect usage and mixing and mastering techniques such as compression and sidechaining.

Listening 101 with Sean Jones

Dates: October 24, 2020 - November 21, 2020, Saturdays, 1:00-3:00 pm

The U.S. has enjoyed a wide range of music over the last century, ranging from Classical music to hip-hop. We will explore the broad canon of American music through listening as well as exploring the influences which shaped the music. Led by the Peabody Conservatory's Richard and Elizabeth Case Chair in Jazz Studies, veteran jazz trumpeter Sean Jones.

Private Lessons for Adults

Private lessons of different durations are available to adults of all experience levels — from beginners through the most advanced levels of study. Lessons are scheduled on an individual basis and are contingent upon teacher availability. Students enrolled in private lessons are required to have a practice instrument available; please ask for suggestions during the inquiry process.

Applied Group Classes for Adults

Classes for adults include dance, chamber music, community chorus, computer music, guitar, harp, jazz ensemble, music theory, strings, voice, and play-ins.
