Direct Loan Master Promissory Note E-Signature Process

First-time Direct Loan borrowers (students and parents) must sign a Master Promissory Note before loan funds can be disbursed.

The Direct Loan Master Promissory Note (MPN) is available for completion online. The site is available 24 hours a day, 7 days per week EXCEPT Sundays, 5:00AM-11:00AM EST and Mondays, 12:01AM-7:00AM EST.

A FSA ID is required to complete this process. If you do not have a valid ID, you must go to the Department of Education’s FSA ID site at: studentaid.gov. Follow the instructions to create an ID.

It is important that you complete the process as soon as possible if you wish to receive your Federal Direct Student Loan. Your loan WILL NOT DISBURSE until all electronic documents are approved by the Financial Aid Office. A delay in completing this process will delay payment to your student billing account. Once you have successfully e-signed the promissory note, your loan will be disbursed within five days to your student billing account as scheduled by the Financial Aid System (SIS).

  1. Log on to E-MPN website at studentaid.gov
  2. Select the ‘Complete new MPN for student loans’ option if you are signing an MPN for a Direct Subsidized, Unsubsidized or Graduate PLUS loan
  3. Select the ‘Complete new MPN for parent loans’ option if you are signing an MPN for a Direct Parent PLUS loan
  4. Provide your PIN number
  5. Be sure to select Johns Hopkins University Peabody Institute when asked to provide the name of your school
  6. Follow the instructions, and remember to print a copy of the promissory note for your records

Perkins Loan Master Promissory Note E-Signature

The Federal Perkins Loan Promissory Note can be accessed and completed online. In some cases, students will not be able to e-sign and will need a paper promissory note provided by the loan servicer. Please contact the Peabody Financial Aid Office if you have difficulty with the online e-signature process.

The procedure for accepting the loan and completing the promissory note is as follows:

  1. You must accept your loan either by returning the signed award notice that was sent to you, or by logging directly into SIS and marking your Perkins Loan as accepted.
  2. Log on to the ECSI website at https://www.ecsi.net/PROMJ9/
  3. You must select JOHNS HOPKINS UNIVERSITY as the school you are attending
  4. Provide the required authentication information
  5. Most pages require that you accept the terms by checking a box at the bottom of those pages
  6. You must provide complete reference information for yourself, next of kin and two additional references. Failure to complete all lines accurately will keep this loan from disbursing to your account.
  7. PROMISSORY NOTE: Read completely. Electronically sign at the bottom of the promissory note page. The electronic signature includes a check off box plus your full legal name.

It is important that you complete the process thoroughly and as soon as possible if you wish to receive the Federal Perkins Loan. Your loan WILL NOT DISBURSE until all electronic documents are approved by Peabody. A delay in completing this process, will delay payment to your account. Once you have successfully e-signed the promissory note, your Federal Perkins Loan will pay to your student account ten days prior to the beginning of each semester (if your loan is for the full academic year).
