Vocal instruction is available to children and adults of all experience levels—from beginners of any age who want to sing for fun through the most advanced levels of pre-college and pre-professional study. Sessions are scheduled at our Downtown, Towson, Howard County, Annapolis, and Frederick Peabody Preparatory locations (contingent on teacher availability).  Click the links above or below to learn more about our lessons and classes or to register via the catalog!

Private lessons:  All students need to sing at a placement hearing discuss what course of study will best meets their age and goals. More information about placement hearings here.

Songbird Voice Lessons: Our program of individual instruction for students age 9-12 years old. The song-based curriculum has been developed specifically for pre-adolescent singers to build both music- and age-appropriate vocal skills for a lifetime of singing enjoyment.

Group singing classes are available for Children, Teens, and Adults.   These small, friendly classes are recommended for those without prior vocal experience, and for those who wish to establish or refresh foundation vocal skills before continuing to private study. No placement hearing is required.

Vocal Performance Academy (by audition only) for advanced teen singers. 

Additional classes available include Introduction to Musical Theater, Acting for SingersDiction for Singers,  and periodic open workshops – these are open to all interested students (you do not have to study privately with a Peabody voice teacher to enroll).  Please call the office or check the catalog for specific information about availability and locations.

Younger children 5-9 without any previous musical training may also benefit by building musical and language skills by:

  • singing in an ensemble for children such as the Peabody Children’s Chorus;
  • taking small group classes such as Singing for Children or Chorus Prep;
  • taking private lessons on an instrument eg piano, violin or flute
  • participating in theory classes.

Faculty

Madeleine Gray

CHAIR
Mezzo soprano Madeleine Gray (BA, MMus, PPRNCM) was born in New York, but for many years made her home in the United Kingdom. She attended Loyola Marymount (BA) and Surrey (MMus) universities before completing her musical education with an artist diploma (PPRNCM) at the Royal Northern College of Music. She has been in demand as a teacher-artist since her return to the US, and her wide-ranging 30-year performance career has included regular performances with Washington National Opera, The Caramoor Festival, Annapolis Opera, Baltimore Opera, and many others. She joined the Peabody Preparatory Institute as Voice Department Chair in 2016, and in 2021 was named recipient of the Suzanne Seff Kuff Excellence in Teaching Award.

Christopher Correlli

Baltimore native Christopher Correlli is a versatile musician whose engaging presence is on display whether in performance, teaching private lessons, or leading worship.

Christopher Fotis

Christopher Fotis has established himself as a multi-faceted opera singer and advancing voice teacher with a career spanning over 10 years. As a dedicated voice teacher, Fotis imparts his expertise, nurturing emerging talent with a focus on healthy vocal technique, artistic expression, and a student-first approach. His motto is “Nurture Excellence, Inspire Beauty.”

Tianna Jackson-Foyle

Tianna Jackson-Foyle, a proud native of New York, holds a Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education from Howard University, where she studied Classical Voice. Her impressive career has seen her grace some of the most prestigious stages in the country, including Carnegie Hall, The Kennedy Center, and The Meyerhoff Symphony Hall, where she has collaborated with numerous professional ensembles.

Ellie Yeonjung Kim

Soprano Ellie Yeonjung Kim has garnered critical acclaim by Opera News online for her portrayal of the role of Rita in Donizetti’s opera “Rita,” presented by the Martina Arroyo Foundation.

Alina Kozinska

Whether in Cannes, Barcelona, or Washington, Alina Kozinska's singing sweeps audiences into an emotional journey. At home on the stages of the cultural capitals of the world, Kozinska moves with ease from opera to oratorio.

ChoEun Lee

ChoEun Lee, a native of South Korea, is an active pianist, vocal coach, and chamber musician. She has given numerous performances in Korea, the United States, Austria, Australia, Italy, New Zealand, and Taiwan; in major venues, including Carnegie Hall in New York City, Ozawa Hall in Tanglewood Music Center, and Harris Concert Hall in Aspen Music Festival.

Michael Manganiello

“Exciting is an apt description of this talented vocalist. Michael Manganiello… shook the floor with their powerful low notes.” Praised for their enviable resonance, crystalline diction, and stylistic prowess, vocalist Michael Manganiello focuses their solo and ensemble work on breaking down and analysing established preconceptions of identity and artistic expression.

Lori Şen

Turkish mezzo-soprano and music scholar Lori Şen is known for her versatility in many vocal genres, including opera, art song, musical theatre, and jazz, as well as for her teaching and research interests in vocal literature, voice pedagogy, and voice science.

Liangjun Shi

Award-winning Chinese tenor Liangjun Shi is a frequent recitalist and accomplished vocologist. He recorded Chinese art songs for the textbook Bel Canto of China to be published by the People’s Music Publishing House nationwide.

Andrew Stewart

Hailed as a “singer’s dream” by Gramophone Magazine, pianist Andrew Stewart has given thousands of performances across a wide spectrum of musical genres. Also on the music faculty at Goucher College, he has played at venues including the Lyric Performing Arts Center, An Die Musik, the Engineers Club and the War Memorial, and more.
