The Certificate program can be very confusing—even for students who have been participants for several years. To help students and parents better understand the expectations for the program, we provide the following description of requirements for each instrumental discipline.

Levels, Sub-levels and Partial Exams

For all instrments and voice, there are three levels at which Certificates are awarded: Elementary, Intermediate and Advanced/Pre-Conservatory. Within each level there can be as may as three sub-level exams. Complicating matters further, is that sub-level exams are often broken down into partial exams.

The following charts organize all the above elements and the music theory requirements. A separate chart appears for piano, violin/viola, cello and voice. Currently, these four disciplines represent most of the students regularly taking exams.
