One of the first steps in preventing and addressing performance-related injuries and conditions is understanding one’s own unique physiology and identifying any potential issues early on. For that reason, all incoming Conservatory dancers, instrumentalists, and singers are offered baseline occupational health screenings at no cost to them. When injuries arise, Peabody’s artists have direct access to the Johns Hopkins Rehabilitation Network’s Clinic for Performing Artists at the Peabody Institute, an innovative collaboration between Johns Hopkins Medicine and the Peabody Institute which provides multi-disciplinary care for musicians and dancers on its campus and at specialty locations. The Peabody Clinic is the first of its kind to provide diagnostic and therapeutic services on the campus of a premier conservatory, and to integrate training in injury prevention into academic coursework and student services.
