Presented to
Mark Cudek
December 5, 2014
The Alumni Association Global Achievement Award is given to individuals who exemplify the Johns Hopkins tradition of excellence and have brought credit to the University and their profession in the international arena.
Mark, you have done that and more since you received a Master’s Degree in Lute from Peabody in 1982.
You created an active and successful career by sharing your passion, your knowledge, and your talents far and wide.
You founded the Peabody Consort and with them you have toured Rome, performed in Tokyo, and played all over Taiwan, including twice in the National Recital Hall in Taipei.
You are a founding member of the Baltimore Consort and with them you have performed in 48 states, most of the Canadian provinces, and all over Europe.
Your work on radio, television, and film, and your multiple recordings have made you and your work visible (and audible) to people around the world, and have helped bring the field of Early Music to the forefront of the music industry, as well as integrally linking it with Peabody.
In your teaching at Peabody, you touch the lives of students from a wide variety of backgrounds and interests. Your ensembles are filled because students are drawn by your enthusiasm and knowledge, and your active support as they build their own paths.
Building the pipeline of both audience and performers has been a focus for you. An example of this is your founding of the Early Music program for high school students at Interlochen Arts Camp and your work as the Artistic Director of the Indianapolis Early Music Festival.
You have been honored with awards and critical acclaim from Early Music America lauding your role as an outstanding Collegium Director, Early Music Educator, and performer.
Mark Cudek, you have achieved such wondrous feats during your time here, and we are privileged to watch your career flourish.
On behalf of The Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University it is our distinct honor to confer upon you the Johns Hopkins Alumni Association Global Achievement Award.
