There is no pre-screening requirement for Trumpet.
Trumpet Audition Repertoire
Bachelor of Music
- Two solo movements of contrasting styles from the major concerto and sonata repertoire.
- Charlier Etude No. 2 Du Style
- Brandt Etude No. 1, or etude of comparable difficulty level and style.
- Orchestral Excerpts:
- Mussorgsky: Pictures at an Exhibition – Promenade
- Resphigi: Pines of Rome – offstage lyrical solo
- Mahler: Symphony No. 5 – 1st movement opening solo
- OR 3 excerpts from band and orchestral repertoire of your choice
- Scales in all keys; possible sight reading and transposition
Graduate Degrees (MM, GPD, DMA)
- Haydn Trumpet Concerto – 1st Movement (complete) with Cadenza
- Modern solo of your choice
- Charlier Etude No. 2 Du Style
- Any Bitsch Etude
- Orchestral Excerpts:
- Mahler: Symphony No. 5 – 1st movement opening solo AND lyrical solo starting one bar before rehearsal 13
- Stravinsky: Petrouchka – Ballerina Dance
- Resphigi: Pines of Rome – offstage lyrical solo
- Beethoven: Leonore Overture – 2 AND 3 offstage trumpet calls
- Handel: Messiah Trumpet Shall Sound – full movement (on piccolo trumpet)
- Scales in all keys; possible sight reading and transposition
Artist Diploma
AD applicantsĀ must prepare a program of no less than 70 minutes duration, representing at least three style periods and including at least two large-scale works.
