Backstage is Peabody’s New Student Orientation program focused on facilitating a smooth and successful transition for all first-year undergraduate, transfer, and graduate students.
This program is designed to introduce our newest students and their families to meaningful resources and opportunities within the Peabody, Johns Hopkins, and Baltimore communities. Students should be prepared to attend mandatory educational sessions, complete placement testing, and begin building personal and professional connections.
Our 2024 orientation program for undergraduate students will take place Sunday, August 18 through Saturday, August 24 with residential student move-in taking place on August 18. Graduate student orientation will take place on Thursday, August 22.
Attendance is required for all first-year undergraduate, transfer, and graduate students. This includes current Peabody students who are enrolling in a new degree program.
Excellence: Develop a cohesive understanding of the Peabody’s and JHU’s mission, values, and scholarship.
Interdisciplinary: Introduce campus resources and services designed to support students in achieving excellence academically, personally, and professionally at Peabody and beyond.
Innovation: Define concrete and attainable goals to inspire students to become leaders within the conservatory as well as their local and global communities.
Community Connectivity: Build a network of faculty, staff, and peers to provide support and mentorship, while challenging students to grow academically, personally, and professionally.
Prior to arriving on campus, students are required to complete a series of checklist items and educational modules. The online orientation portal provides incoming students with detailed instructions and information to complete each requisite.
A comprehensive list of the next steps and online sessions will be available in the Backstage Online portal and must be completed by the indicated due dates. Please understand many assignments are due prior to your August arrival and may require action to be taken by outside entities.
