Are you a professional performer, music teacher, or arts administrator seeking to expand your career and explore the transformative power of music in healthcare? This intensive, week-long, in-person course offers a unique opportunity to develop the foundational skills and knowledge necessary to effectively integrate music into hospital settings.

Led by Sarah Hoover, with insights from guest experts including musicians, music therapists, arts in health practitioners, and hospital staff, this program provides a comprehensive overview of music’s role in healing. Instruction will take place at both the Peabody Institute and Johns Hopkins Hospital, offering valuable real-world context.

  • Capstone Project: Participants will develop a practical capstone project tailored to their individual professional goals, such as a performance/event proposal, a professional portfolio, curriculum development, a new program proposal, or another approved project. This project will serve as a valuable addition to your professional portfolio.

Prerequisites: 

  • A bachelor’s degree in music or 4+ years of professional performance experience.
  • Students currently enrolled in a college/conservatory music program may request instructor permission.
  • A defined capstone area (e.g., performance/event proposal, professional portfolio, curriculum development, new program proposal, or other approved project). Please indicate your capstone area when you register for the course.
