Vision
To ensure Peabody’s robust programmatic engagement beyond its Mount Vernon campus, across the university, in the community, throughout and beyond the region, and on the international stage.
Goals and Progress
Goal: Leverage new opportunities through the university-wide arts initiative to expand Peabody’s presence across the university community, and by building on Peabody’s presence at the Hopkins Bloomberg Center.
July 2025 Updates:
- The University-wide Task Force on the Arts concluded in its draft report:
- Drawing on the extraordinary resources of the Peabody Institute, Hopkins should facilitate greater interaction between Peabody students and students across the Homewood and other campuses.
- In addition to strengthening the social fabric of the student community, the presence of Peabody musicians on other campuses enlivens the cultural experience for all.
- Peabody faculty and students can serve as an important resource and driver in creating more direct access to music and dance across the university. Example programs might include Peabody students working across the University as coaches, performers, and teachers; and making Peabody minor classes and remission benefits more widely available to the Hopkins community.
- Peabody has an exceptional record of community involvement and artistic collaborations in Baltimore and Washington, D.C. noting that The Office of the Arts can support these efforts to identify new opportunities and additional resources to enhance community engagement initiatives.
Goal: As an outgrowth of the Breakthrough Curriculum and through LAUNCHPad, build a comprehensive strategy for existing and future community engagement initiatives as well as the creation of entrepreneurial artistic models that reflects robust experiential learning opportunities for our students and authentic co-creation both across the university and with our community partners.
July 2025 Updates:
- A plan is well underway, centered on utilizing Internship Pathways Program in collaboration with JHU’s B’More Community Bound as a core mechanism to provide Peabody undergraduate and graduate (MM) students with robust experiential learning opportunities across Baltimore, with focus across five areas: Performance, Education, Arts Administration, Composition & Production, and Health & Wellness. Additional work will incorporate community engagement programs embedded in conservatory departments, such as POPP and Junior Bach, as well as the Preparatory’s Tuned-In model.
Goal: Build a 21st century vision for the Preparatory based on its strategic plan to be completed in 2024-25 that includes and goes beyond its traditional base through the addition of eclectic new programs that broaden content and artistic experiences from the classic to contemporary, as well as developing programming for new growing markets and modalities that serve life-long learners including leveraging university life-long learning initiatives, while creating enhanced pathways to, and connections with, the Conservatory.
July 2025 Updates:
- A new strategic plan for an expanded, umbrella Non-Credit enterprise—encompassing Preparatory (K-12), Pro (Professional Development), Plus (Lifelong Learning), and Prescribe (Arts for Health and Well-Being) will inform additional market research specific to non-credit education.
Goal: In assessing the macro-international student environment and potential future impact on the international student population, explore potential future markets and avenues to those markets which may include study at Peabody’s Baltimore campus, hybrid or online experiences, and an international satellite Peabody campus with assessment of regulatory and market environment as the critical first step.
July 2025 Updates:
- Preliminary and exploratory conversations with potential international partners are continuing.
- A line of business models is being developed for scenario planning.
Goal: Engage more deeply and strategically with Peabody alumni around the world with the goal of strengthening ties among alumni and with current students to inform and shape their future careers, to foster a lifelong sense of community, shared learning and mutual support, while also assessing the broader impact of a Peabody education on personal and professional growth as measured by surveys, SNAAP data, and career tracking.
July 2025 Updates:
- During the 2024-25 academic year, the Office of External Relations aligned staff roles with institutional goals and appointed a new Alumni Relations Officer.
- Key accomplishments included connecting directly with individual alumni, conducting market analyses, and expanding partnerships for various events both on and off campus, including international receptions and alumni celebrations with the Dean.
