The Waterloo apartment building, a popular rental option for Peabody students for many years, was acquired by Johns Hopkins University in fall 2024 to be converted into contemporary Peabody student housing. This student housing expansion will not only enhance the student living experience at Peabody, but also enable us to better support the diverse needs and talents of our students as well as the Institute’s continued growth and evolution as a leader in 21st century performing arts education.
Over the 2025-26 academic year, work is under way to transition the Waterloo from independent rental units to student housing. Planned updates and upgrades will ensure a safe residential environment that encourages a healthy and holistic student life experience.
The dining hall will continue to serve students and the Peabody campus community while renovations are completed at the Waterloo property, and Johns Hopkins Dining will continue to provide food services at Peabody throughout all phases of the project.
The new housing at the Waterloo is scheduled to open for students in fall 2026.
