The transformation of the Peabody Institute’s Mount Vernon campus is a central priority of the institute’s new strategic plan.

In order to cultivate an environment that meets the needs of a highly creative community of artists, Peabody has begun work to significantly upgrade and expand student housing, develop new and expanded programmatic space to improve the educational experience, and address long-standing deferred maintenance needs across the campus.

Student Housing/the Waterloo

The acquisition and conversion of the Waterloo apartment building, across St. Paul Street from Peabody’s existing campus, will effectively double the size of the campus footprint and provide contemporary and convenient student housing for Peabody undergraduates.

Renovating the Housing Towers

Moving students into new housing will create the opportunity to transform our current housing towers for expanded programmatic and academic space, creating state-of-the-art rehearsal, practice, teaching, and performance spaces to support the work of our faculty and students.

Miriam A. Friedberg Concert Hall

A final phase of technical and acoustical work on Miriam A. Friedberg Concert Hall, our largest and oldest performance space, is under way during the 2025-26 academic year and expected to be complete in spring 2026.

General Upgrades

A variety of projects are planned to modernize facilities and improve sustainability and accessibility throughout campus.
