Friedrich Gulda: Concerto for Cello and Wind Orchestra, Op. 129
Amit Peled, cello
Ralph Vaughan Williams: Toccata Marziale
Julie Giroux: Symphony No. 5, “Elements”
Peabody faculty artist Amit Peled so enjoys Friederich Gulda’s Concerto for Cello and Wind Orchestra that he debuted an arrangement of the late composer’s jazz, rock, and beerhall folk-tinged work for six cellos earlier this year. Peled joins the Peabody Wind Ensemble under the baton of Harlan D. Parker for a performance of Gulda’s entertainingly eclectic work on a program that also includes prolific American wind band composer Julie Giroux’s Symphony No. 5, “Elements,” and Vaughan Williams’ stately Toccata Marziale led by Conducting graduate student Siqi Yuan.
