The Peabody Preparatory is excited to offer the Open Program for Children ages 7-15. It is designed for students who are looking for an introduction into the world of dance. It is perfect for those who want to attend Peabody Preparatory Dance classes once a week without the increased time commitment of the Primary or Pre-Professional programs of study. It can also provide a supplement to their weekly training schedule.
With a highly experienced dance faculty, students will learn in an encouraging environment. Focus is placed on learning the fundamentals and principles of Ballet and Contemporary. We currently offer several classes in both.
Classes and Curriculum:
- Open Contemporary Foundations (ages 8-13) introduces young students to the principles of contemporary dance technique to develop core strength, flexibility, versatility of movement styles, and creativity. Offered Wednesdays at 6:45-8:00 with Lisa Green-Cudek.
- Open Teen Beginner/Intermediate Ballet (ages 11-15) accommodates those who want to try a ballet class for the very first time as well as those who have experience in ballet. Focus is placed on fundamental ballet vocabulary at the barre and in the center, with an emphasis placed on correct body alignment, building strength, increasing flexibility, and developing coordination. Offered Saturdays at 1:00-2:00 with Adrienne Duckett.
- Contemporary Dance Foundations (ages 11-15) provides an essential foundation in contemporary dance principles and technique. All students wishing to advance in contemporary dance will enter this class before taking intermediate and advanced classes. A placement class is required prior to registration. In general, students must have a minimum of three years of recent dance training and meet the minimum age requirement by the first day of the fall semester to be placed in Contemporary Dance Foundations. Offered Wednesdays at 6:00-7:00 with Amanda Fair.
