For High School and College Singers

2020 online intensive

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, this summer’s Classical Singers’ Workshop has been reconfigured as an online intensive series of seminars and interactive classes.

The Classical Singers’ Workshop will run from Monday July 13 to Thursday, July 16, from 10:00 am to 4:00 or 5:00 pm daily. This program is aimed at rising high school juniors and seniors and college voice students who wish to enrich their knowledge of diction, vocal technique, movement and interpretive skills, audition preparation and performance arts. Classes will be offered on such topics as Foreign Language Diction, Audition Preparation, Interpretation of Art Song Texts, Recitative, Movement for Singers, Breath Support and Resonance, and Vocal Health.  The Seminar will conclude with a Master Class with Elizabeth Futral and a Q & A round table discussion with Peabody Conservatory Voice Faculty.

New this year, singers have the option to participate at two different levels: 

Performer/Masterclass Participants will attend all sessions,  and will perform in the classes and masterclasses; audition required.

Observer/Studio Participants will attend all sessions and may enroll without audition.

Program Requirements

Performer/Masterclass applicants are required to have three pieces memorized and performance ready: an Italian art song or aria (aria before 1800, for high school students); an English art song; and either a German Lied or a French mélodie. Further repertoire may be assigned prior to the start of the workshop, including recitative and poetry selections to work on in classes.

2020 Observer/Studio Tuition:  $250   Places available – register here
2020 Performer/Masterclass Tuition:  $500 FULL for 2020  – wait list only. 

An audition is required for those who wish to participate as a Performer/Masterclass participant.  Performer spaces are now filled, although you may apply to be  added to the wait list.  Please e-mail an audio file or YouTube link of an Italian art song or aria and an English art song by July 9th to Carol Cavey-Miles at ccaveym1@peabody.jhu.edu. with the subject heading: Classical Singers’ Seminar.
