The Preparatory Piano Department is pleased to announce our new Piano Enrichment for Beginners classes. Meeting once a week at our Downtown or Towson locations, these classes bring students together in small groups to expand their focus and supplement their learning. Piano Enrichment includes performance opportunities and is taught by members of our preeminent faculty. Designed as a supplement to weekly lessons, and offering a unique learning opportunity, all Piano Department students are encouraged to participate in the Piano Enrichment program.

Class Descriptions and Schedules

Piano Enrichment Schedule and Registration

BACH (45 min)
For our youngest beginners, the BACH level enrichment class brings students together in a motivational environment, to reinforce concepts from their weekly lessons. Students will learn important first-year concepts while developing a camaraderie with other young pianists. This class is strongly recommended for all first-year piano students.

CPE BACH (45 min)
For our young second-year beginners, the CPE BACH level group class brings students together in a motivational environment, to reinforce concepts from their weekly lessons. Students will learn important second-year concepts while developing a camaraderie with other young pianists. For continuing students who have completed the BACH level or have been placed by their individual instructor.

HAYDN (45 min)
For beginners age 7-9, the HAYDN level enrichment class brings students together in a motivational environment, to reinforce concepts from their weekly lessons. Students will learn important first-year concepts while developing a camaraderie with other young pianists. This class is strongly recommended for all first-year piano students.

BEETHOVEN (1 hr)
For continuing piano students who have completed the BACH or HAYDN level, or who have been placed by their individual instructor. The BEETHOVEN level enrichment class brings students together in a motivational environment, to reinforce concepts from their weekly lessons. This class includes weekly interaction and performance, while learning and reinforcing important musical concepts.

SCHUMANN (1 hr)
For continuing piano students who have completed the BEETHOVEN level, or who have been placed by their individual instructor. The SCHUMANN level enrichment class brings students together in a motivational environment, to reinforce concepts from their weekly lessons. This class includes weekly interaction and performance, while learning and reinforcing important musical concepts.

CHOPIN (1 hr)
For continuing piano students who have completed the SCHUMANN level, or who have been placed by their individual instructor. The CHOPIN level enrichment class brings students together in a motivational environment, to reinforce concepts from their weekly lessons. This class includes weekly interaction and performance, while strengthening skills in theory, music history, ear-training, sigh-reading, and rhythm. The Chopin level Piano Enrichment class satisfies the Theory requirement for the Elementary Music Certificate.

DEBUSSY (1hr)
For students who have completed their Elementary 3 Certificate piano exam and/or are currently working on Intermediate 1 repertoire. Each week, classes will work on theory skills (to include intervals, rhythms, time signatures, key signatures, major and minor scales, chord progressions and inversions, and how to harmonize a simple melody), ear training (dictation of simple rhythms), the study of AB or ABA form, Sonata and Rondo Form, Inventions and exploration of late Romantic, Impressionistic, and 20th Century composers. Sightreading will be based on the Intermediate 1 certificate exam.
