Libby Bellamy teaches violin and is the Coordinator of Early Groups in the Young People’s String Program. A Preparatory faculty member since 1989, she currently leads instruction for Peabody’s youngest violin students.
Bellamy earned a Bachelor of Music degree from Indiana University and a Master of Music degree from the University of Arizona. She has studied with James Buswell, Theodora MacMillan, Blair Milton, and Jacques Israelievitch.
A founding member of the Alexandrian Trio, she has also performed with the Bach Ensemble of Baltimore, the Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra, the Tucson Symphony, the Arizona Opera Orchestra, and Musicisti Americani. Before moving to Baltimore, she taught at the Lawrence University Academy, in Appleton, Wisconsin.
Bellamy’s students have included international and national competition winners, music educators, chamber musicians, and folk musicians. A passionate string educator, she has presented at pedagogy workshops throughout the country. She is the author of The Violinist’s First Scale Book, published by J.W. Pepper in 2018.
