John Taylor Mitchell (JT) serves as Faculty teaching artist of baroque flute and recorder at the Peabody Preparatory. He has performed with the the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, Baltimore Baroque Band, Cantate Chamber Singers, Peabody Renaissance Ensemble, the Washington Bach Consort, and with members of the faculty from The Juilliard School, Oberlin Conservatory, and the Peabody Conservatory. He has performed at the Kennedy Center, Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall, Music Center at Strathmore, and internationally in Canada, Germany, Hungary, and Poland.
A graduate of the Peabody Conservatory of the Johns Hopkins University, JT holds a Master of Music in Baroque Flute under the tutelage of Gwyn Roberts. He developed a collegiate baroque ensemble that led to collaborations with various baroque specialists during his undergraduate studies on modern flute at Baldwin Wallace University. JT has participated in lessons and masterclasses with performing artists from The Juilliard School, Oberlin Conservatory, Royal Conservatory of the Hague, Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, and The Cleveland Orchestra.
An accomplished keyboardist, he has performed throughout the Mid-Atlantic on piano and organ, and was the Director of Music at Divinity Lutheran Church in Towson, Maryland. JT serves on the Emerging Professional Leadership Council for Early Music America and is the former Associate Director of Admissions at the Peabody Conservatory.
