Description

Peabody at the Walters features Peabody student performers at the Walters Art Museum. Performers craft interactive programs that reference art on display at the museum and encourage listeners to engage with the art around them. Performers participate on a volunteer basis. Note: On occasion, there may be opportunity for paid performances. 

Responsibilities

  • Participate in community engagement meetings and/or coaching sessions as needed 
  • Secure and provide their own instrument, stand, music, and amplification (if necessary) for performances 
  • Prepare and deliver a Peabody-approved, 45-60 minute performance 
  • Attend a walk-through of space, communicate all equipment needs, and schedule dress rehearsal and other details as necessary with The Walters 
  • Submit bio, names, relevant images for performers to The Walters 
  • Confirm relevant image(s) of artwork from The Walters’ collection or current exhibitions and submit final program and a description of performance and its relation to The Walters  
  • Submit any additional handouts or other didactic materials for public consumption for review  

Eligibility and Requirements

Soloists and ensembles in their third and fourth year of undergraduate study and all graduate students are eligible to apply.

*There is no piano at the Walters, but a keyboard will be available for performances

Application Instructions and Timeline

The application process is currently concluded for the 2023-2024 academic year. 

  • Application Deadline: Sunday, March 12, 2023 
  • Apply via SMILE and submit supplementary application form 
  • Applications will be reviewed and follow-up meetings, if necessary, will be scheduled between March 27-April 28. Applicants that advance may be asked to provide supplemental information (e.g. proposed repertoire, etc.). 
  • Acceptance notifications will be made starting May 5

    • Brief questions about your interest in the program 
    • Biography 
    • Photo 
    • Recording/work sample (encouraged, but optional)
