Mission Statement

The Peabody String Sinfonia is a student-run, conductor-less string orchestra whose mission is to bring healing and beauty to people in our Baltimore community who are in challenging situations or in places where they cannot easily gain access to live music, including cancer treatment, incarceration, homelessness, hospitalization, addiction, and hunger. Our members are students and alumni of the Peabody Conservatory of Music who volunteer their time for this project.

We value connection and kinship most of all. We bring music where life is and our audience members bring life to the ensemble. This is a chance for students to experience connection with each other and our audiences and to enhance our appreciation of what it means to be a musician in the larger world beyond the conservatory and concert hall. The Peabody String Sinfonia is truly all about the music and our focus is on bringing the most beautiful string ensemble repertoire, prepared and performed at the highest level, to these communities.

Covid Update

Like every artistic organization, Sinfonia has been forced to undergo a lot of changes this year. Our main mission is to bring music to communities in Baltimore, and yet this mission has become significantly more challenging due to the need for social distancing. Despite these numerous challenges, we feel that Sinfonia should and must persevere. Afterall, is it not in difficult times like these when musical connections and kinship are needed most?

During this time, our first priority is safety. If you play with us, thank you for being patient and understanding as we navigate through these new social standards. If Sinfonia is playing for your community, please let us know how we can support, serve, and connect with your community.

We are so excited for Sinfonia this fall!
