Peabody soloists or small ensembles create and perform a musical storytelling project in collaboration with Peabody faculty and the Enoch Pratt Central Children’s Library.

On Sunday, October 27 at 2:00pm, selected students will perform a musical program accompanying a public reading of the book, You’re Safe with Me by Chitra Soundar- a story about baby animals of the Indian forest trying to fall asleep during a thunderstorm.

Prior to the performance, selected students will work with Peabody faculty in developing and executing the musical storytelling program. Students will receive a stipend for training and performance.

Eligibility and Requirements

Soloists, Duos, and Trios are welcome to apply.

Because You’re Safe with Me takes place in South Asia and the date of the performance falls on the holiday of Diwali, students are encouraged to incorporate related musical themes in their performance descriptions.

Application Instructions and Timeline

The Peabody Musical Storytelling Project application deadline is September 30, 2019. Applications can be found here and will include the following:

  • A performance description that includes musical ideas, themes and audience engagement techniques directly related to the storyline in You’re Safe with Me by Chitra Soundar
  • A brief (3-5 minute) video demonstrating interpersonal and performance skills. The video should include: A) a verbal introduction, including why you’re applying for this opportunity, and B) performance of one musical selection including an audience engagement element
