Jazz Ensemble is designed to give students training in the harmonic, melodic, rhythmic, and stylistic concepts of jazz. Ellington, Gershwin, Porter, Basie, Parker, Monk, Davis, Coltrane, Blakey, and many other jazz, blues, swing, and bop selections form the repertoire. All instruments are welcome. Enrollment limits are based on instrumentation distribution. Knowledge of the major scales and technical proficiency are required.

Steve Yankee is a native of Durand, Michigan and has played guitar and been a student of music since he was nine years old. His college education was with Charles Postlewate, and Joe Fava at Wayne State University.
