Jarrel Garner, a lifelong resident of Baltimore, began his musical journey at the age of 11 in the Baltimore City Public School System. At that age, Garner fell in love with the tuba and also played the bass guitar throughout high school and college.
Garner completed his undergraduate studies at Towson University and received his master’s degree from the Peabody Conservatory. His principal tuba teachers included Michael Bunn and David Fedderly.
He currently teaches private lessons, co-directs the Tuned – In Concert band, and directs the Tuba – Euphonium Ensemble at the Peabody Preparatory. In addition to teaching at Peabody Preparatory, Garner is also the band director at Patuxent Valley Middle School in Howard County.
In addition to his love for teaching, Garner performs with the 229th Maryland Army National Guard Band, the Hopkins Symphony Orchestra, and Clifton Street Brass.
