Wonhee Kim: Cello;. A faculty member at The Preparatory Division Of Peabody Institute in Baltimore, MD. A native of Seoul Korea, She has won several top Korean honors including Ewha and JoongAng National competitions. She also won The Young Artist Concerto Competition and performed with Seoul National philharmonic Orchestra at her young age of 13. As a member of The Kim Trio Wonhee and her sisters performed around the world including cities in Asia , Africa and The United States. During her freshman year at The Seoul National University, Kim moved to Amsterdam, Holland to study with Dmitri Ferschtman at The Sweelinck Conservarory. She played in numerous recitals as a soloist and as a member of a chamber group. Wonhee was selected by The Korean Government to play in a series of concerts including the opportunity to play at the Korean Embassy in Hague Holland. She participated in The International Holland Music Session where she was nominated and performed at The Ruinekerk in Bergen, Holland. In 1987, Kim moved to The States and completed her BA and MA at The New England Conservatory Of Music with Mr. Lawrence Lesser. Wonhee remains very active in the music community as a performer and teacher in the Baltimore-Washington area. She has been a guest performer in the Candlelight Chamber Music Society, Sunday at Three Concert Series in Baltimore. As a chamber musician, she also performs regularly for the NEC Alumni Chamber Concert Series in Washington D.C. Currently Kim is a member of The Artistic Council with The New Life Foundation, where she volunteers her time teaching underprivileged young musicians during summer camps in The United States and Korea. Since 2010, In 2014,she joined as a musician of Washington Chamber Orchestra. Wonhee has served as an adjudicator for All State Orchestra ,and Asian American Music Society’s International Competition in Maryland. Kim is currently serving as a chair of the MSMT Bach Solo Competition. Her principal teachers have been Minja Hyun, Dmitri Ferschtmann, and Laurence Lesser.
