Exploring the intersection of art and music, the Peabody Institute and the Walters Art Museum partner for two concert series featuring Peabody students. Selected Peabody students will work with Walters staff members to develop performances that reference the museum’s collection through music. There is not a supplies budget, however musicians will have full access to any resources within the WAM’s A/V inventory. Selected performers will be expected to meet with Walters staff on-site at least once before the performance to determine rehearsal times, and equipment and staffing needs. Final program information must be provided to the Walters no later than three weeks before the performance date.
Performances are scheduled for Thursdays and Friday throughout the year.
Thursday evening concerts are scheduled for 30-minutes (60-minutes March 22, 2018). Attendance for these concerts is mainly comprised of members of the general public, college students, and professionals. The performance space will determine the audience capacity. Audience members can be encouraged to explore the galleries rather than remain seated.
First Friday afternoon concerts (Oct-Dec, Feb-May) are schedule for 60-minutes and start at 12:00 p.m. on the first Friday of the month. The performances take place in the Sculpture Court. Attendance for these concerts is comprised of Mount Vernon residents, seniors, families with small children, school tour groups, and regular museum visitors. Visitors typically discover these concerts upon their visit to the museum. It is not uncommon that visitors may stay to listen to only part of the performance and then continue with their visit.
