Peabody Programs for Paid Performance

Applying to Performance Opportunities

LAUNCHPad has compiled tips and resources to help you present your best self when applying to performance opportunities:

1) Compile promotional materials. Have a press kit! It should include at least a bio, photos, audio/video recordings, and a sample program or two. For more tips and resources, visit LAUNCHPad’s webpage on marketing and self-promotion.

2) Create a program. Cater your program proposals to each venue you approach. Design your programs with relevant and cohesive themes that will connect to presenters and audiences alike. Use the following resources for inspiration:

3) Research and contact venues. Find performers and venues whose work and artistic goals align with your own. Use your connections, but don’t be afraid to send emails or make phone calls! Get started with our curated resources below:

4) Negotiate a contract. Once you’ve confirmed a concert or gig, protect your work and rights by getting your agreement in writing. Use LAUNCHPad’s Contract Template to get started!

Virtual Performances & Livestreaming

Many artists use online platforms to replace income from in-person events. These resources, organized from introductory to more advanced, will help you learn more about performing virtually.

Contracts for Virtual Performances
If you are hired to perform for a virtual event, create a contract as you would for any other gig. Start with LAUNCHPad’s Contract Template and consider the additional points below:

  • What streaming platform will the concert use? Who will create and host the stream?
  • Will the stream be recorded? If so, will the recording be available for redistribution?
  • What kind of interaction is expected between the artists and attendees?
  • Is the event occurring in a different time zone?.
