Citation for the Johns Hopkins University Alumni Association Heritage Award

Presented to

Ruth Buettner Renneburg

April 29, 1989

The Johns Hopkins Heritage Award is given for exceptional service to the University and its.alumni. It is therefore most fitting that we honor a lady who has given so much of her time and energy to the Peabody Institute of The Johns Hopkins University.

Ruth Buettner Renneburg started in the Prep and worked her way through the Conservatory and Johns Hopkins University with great distinction. She served her country as a lieutenant j.g. in the Navy during World War II, taught at the Prep, was a corporate officer of Renneburg International, served as Corresponding Secretary of the Peabody Alumni Association in which she also held numerous committee posts, was a member ot the Women’s Board of the Peabody Institute, vice chairman of Peabody’s Annual Giving Campaign, and served until last spring as a member of the Peabody Chapter’s Steering Committee.

While doing all this, she still found time to perform, to raise a family, to be a charming and gracious hostess, and always always to be there when Peabody needed her.

From the highly successful Peabody benefit “Old Masters and Young Maestros” to her efforts to obtain a volleyball court for our students, Ruth has been a source of strength and inspiration to our alumni and, indeed, to everyone who knows her.

And so, for her years of devoted service to the Peabody, it gives me great pleasure, as President of the.Peabody Chapter of The Johns Hopkins University Alumni Association, to present the Johns Hopkins Heritage Award to Ruth Buettner Renneburg.
