American soprano, Katie Procell, studies at Peabody Conservatory with Phyllis Bryn-Julson as a recipient of the Jacques T. Schlenger and Charles P. Sachs Conservatory Scholarships (MM 2018). She also studied at James Madison University with Kevin McMillan where she co-founded its Gilbert and Sullivan Society (BM 2016). Past opera credits include Susanna (Le nozze di Figaro; Peabody Conservatory); Celia (Iolanthe; Young Victorian Theatre Company); Rosina (Il barbiere di Siviglia; JMU); Valencienne (The Merry Widow; JMU); Phyllis (Iolanthe; Luray Opera Theater); Patience (Patience; JMU); Despina (Così fan tutte; Luray Opera Theater). She has trained at Oberlin Baroque Performance Institute, Halifax Summer Opera Festival, Centre for Opera Studies in Italy, and SongFest. This year, she will be understudying Krysia in the premiere of the revised version of Jake Heggie’s Out of Darkness: Two Remain, performing Britten, Strauss, and Toch with orchestra for her master’s recital, singing three world premieres in All In the Sound: American Songs by Peter Dayton, and Giulietta in I Capuleti e i Montecchi with the new concert opera company Opera Alchemy.
