Pre-screening is required for Regular Decision only. Videos must be submitted with your application by December 1st.

Bachelor of Music

  • One movement from any of the Solo Suites for cello by Johann Sebastian Bach
  • One movement of a standard concerto
  • One orchestral excerpt

Master of Music & Graduate Performance Diploma

  • One movement from any of the Solo Suites for cello by Johann Sebastian Bach
  • One movement from a standard concerto
  • Three orchestral excerpts of contrasting styles

Doctor of Musical Arts & Artist Diploma

  • Three solo works of contrasting styles

Auditions

Bachelor of Music

  • Two contrasting pieces from the standard repertoire
    • Individual movements of sonatas, concertos, or suites are acceptable.
  • Two contrasting orchestral excerpts

Master of Music & Graduate Performance Diploma

  • Three contrasting pieces from the standard repertoire, including at least one selection from the solo cello suites of Johann Sebastian Bach
    • Individual movements of sonatas, concertos, or suites are acceptable.
  • Four contrasting orchestral excerpts

Doctor of Musical Arts

  •  The DMA repertoire in double bass should mirror a typical graduate recital containing works which show a diversity of periods and styles. Applicants should submit the following:
    • At least three movements from the same solo Bach Cello Suite (no repeats)
    • First two movements from a standard Double Bass concerto (with cadenzas where applicable)
    • One contemporary piece for Double Bass written after 1950
    • Any solo work of choice (please limit to 10 minutes or less)

Artist Diploma

AD applicants must prepare a program of no less than 70 minutes duration, representing at least three style periods and including at least two large-scale works. To meet this requirement please include:

  • Three movements from a single solo Bach Cello Suite (no repeats)
  • First two movements from a standard Double Bass concerto (with cadenzas where applicable)
  • One contemporary piece for Double Bass written after 1950
  • One showpiece
    • A transcription of a piece originally written for another instrument is acceptable
    • Please limit to 10 minutes or less
