The instrumental ensembles will deploy a rotation system providing students with a wide range of experiences within a single semester. This will include opportunities in large orchestra, chamber orchestra, opera/oratorio orchestra, baroque orchestra, wind ensemble, modern orchestra, studio orchestra and other configurations as required by repertoire choices.
Students will enroll for instrumental ensemble which will meet for two hours, five days per week with a single syllabus and grading criteria. Students will rotate into an ensemble configuration through their placement. Rehearsals will be for a condensed period of five to ten days depending on the nature of the ensemble and the repertoire being rehearsed, after which time they will normally present a public concert. Faculty and chairs along with ensemble coordinators and conductors will be consulted in the final placement of students in the rotational configuration based on the skills of the individual student.
Repertoire will encompass the entire canon of western ensemble music ranging from the baroque to newly composed modern music. Every effort will be made for each student to experience historical styles throughout their course of study.
